PROJECTS & EXPERIENCE

At the beginning of our second year in Architecture, we were tasked to go to Pulau Ubin to design a sustainable feature that will improve the lives of those living/working there. The Pulau Ubin project also helped me to discover and understand how architecture can be used to improve the lives of others.

During our mid-year break in Year 2, a group of us visited Japan Hida to study and learn more about Japan woodworking and joinery. This allowed us to discover more ways to design our concepts in the future. I am now able to experiment with different forms of timber joinery in my designs and how I can reduce the need for concrete columns & beams.

Year 3 Primer project gave me an opportunity to explore different ways to incorporate a "market" theme into the architectural design. I made use of different technological concepts and tried to adapt it to my design. Experimenting with this brand new concept allowed me to learn how to integrate a focused theme throughout my entire building.

My Year 2 Final project allowed me to fully understand the needs of others and create/ design based on their needs and how to build using the landscape to our advantage. The site analysis also gave me a grasp on how others lived their lives and how architecture could make an impact and help improve it.

My Year 3 FYP stage 1 forced me to do heavy research and analysis on the site during the COVID 19 period. During this period, site visits were not available and much research had to be done online. The design I focused on bringing young families together through sports to tackle the issues of separated relationships.

For my final primer submission, I applied what I learned during my internship and made different improvements to my design. For this primer design, I focused on creating a space intended for visitors to rejuvenate surrounded by the nature of Fort Canning. The design provides sufficient bike parking and repair stations for cyclists to use as well as a vending section to provide unique selections of food and beverages for all visitors.

For my final year submission, I improved on my year 3 final year project. The design this time around focused on promoting bonding between young families through sports-related activities which encourage mental healing simultaneously. This time, I tried to be creative with my spaces, creating interesting pocket spaces which provide views for all floors of the hub. The design of the Meditation Connect Zone allows mental healing to progress with every floor. The first floor is a commercial space that allows visitors to bond as well as socialize, the second floor consists of programs that revolve around mindful sports such as aerobic exercises, and the third floor being a private space which solely focuses on mental healing and zen.
